School construction begins, and boundary recommendations are in:

Construction is beginning on Elementary School #35, to be built on the western portion of the vacant land at CPN Parkway and Monarch. The School District also has significant announcements about school boundaries: elementary boundaries have been set, and both of CPN's Elementary schools will feed to the new Middle/ High School #7 at Monarch and McArthur. Details are posted on the School District's web site.

Here's the highlights for CPN residents:
The elementary school boundaries are as follows: Oak Hills, Charter Oaks, Beverly Hills, Surrey Ridge, The Retreat, Claremont Estates, Huntington Ridge, Castle Pines Village, plus Castle pines North south of Castle Pines Parkway will remain at Buffalo Ridge Elementary.

Forest Park, Pine Ridge, plus Castle Pines North north of Castle Pines Parkway will now go to Elementary #35. This also includes the Daniels Gate area and Hidden Pointe.

The Middle School/ High School picture is also becoming clearer -- both Buffalo Ridge and Elementary #35 will feed to the new Middle/ High School #7 at Monarch and McArthur. At public meetings on the elementary school boundaries, residents overwhelmingly favored "staying together," asking that both of CPN's elementary schools be assigned to the new Middle/High #7. The October 15th meeting confirmed attendance to the new Middle school.

The Middle/ High School boundary decision will be made by the School Board on November 19. The District will hold a series of public meetings October 21-30 to review the scenarios for which elementary schools to include in #7's attendance area, and answer parents' questions about the transition from being assigned to Castle Rock Middle School and Douglas County High School.

Elementary #35 will open in the Fall of 2003 (tentative date "after Labor Day"), and will be operated on a "modified traditional calendar" until enrollment reaches the size required to go on the year-round calendar.

Middle School/ High School #7 campus at Monarch and McArthur will also open in the Fall of 2003, for 7th and 8th grades - 9th graders will also attend the new campus, and will share the Middle School building until the High School building is completed for all high school grades, in the Fall of 2004.
