Pack 826 Update
Pack Photography
Contest
Tired of trying to pose the dog for a portrait? Need more fruit for a still life picture? Keep your scout snapping away with his camera!! We would like the scouts to use the camera given to them by the pack to shoot landscapes, portraits and abstract settings but you are not restricted to using that disposable camera if your scout wants to continue to explore photography for this contest. Your den leader should schedule a den meeting later this month for the scouts to present their developed photos. The den will vote on the best photo in each category then those will be presented to the pack committee at our November 10 meeting and the winners will be announced at the November pack meeting.
Speaking of PicturesÉ.
Throughout the scouting year I will be digitally collecting pictures in order to put together a photo presentation during our May graduation ceremony. Please help me in this project by emailing me at sixfoxes@comcast.net with your pictures from den or pack meetings.
Pack T-shirts for Sale
Pack t-shirts in both youth and adult sizes are for sale!!! The short sleeved shirts feature the colorful pack logo on the back and the Cub Scout logo on the front left crest. The shirts cost $8.00 (our cost) and will be sold at all pack meetings or you can order them through your den leader.
We have just a few days left to
sell popcorn!! All orders must be
turned in to Lynn Zahorik (6754 Hanley Ct, 303-663-1978) by October 14th
(or earlier!!)
October Pack Meeting
The pack will be meeting on Monday, October 24 at 6:30 at the Timber Trail Elementary School Gymnasium. Scouts can be in costumes and bring their best hand carved pumpkin. The pack will judge the pumpkins and prizes will be awarded!

Religious Emblem Retreat
Below is the text of an email from Mr. Matt Maranto, 2005

Subject: Religious Emblems Retreat Update -
October 22, Pax Christi in Highlands Ranch
Scouters:
Thank you for the allowing me a few
minutes to speak at the recent Arapahoe District Cub Scout Roundtable, (I hit
the Pioneer Trails Cub Scout and Boy Scout Roundtables last month) to give
details on this yearÕs Scouting Religious Emblems retreat.
The retreat has been traditionally held
for Catholic scouts, but as you will see on the flyer, the Catholic Committee
on Scouting would like to include scouts of other faiths to work on their
emblems as well. This year, we have expanded will be holding emblems
sessions - as interest dictates - for Boy Scouts AND Girl Scouts of
the following faiths:
Independent
Christian Churches, AME, Baptist, Catholic, Episcopal, CME, Lutheran,
Methodist, Presbyterian, and Protestant faiths.
The retreat serves as a Ôkick-offÕ for
Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts working on religious emblems. Each emblemÕs
requirements are project-oriented and are rarely completed in one day; the 1st/2nd
grade type programs usually make the most progress. We will not be
awarding emblems at the retreat; the individual faith or its assigned designee
administers those.
Again, I have attached is the Retreat
Flyer / Registration Form (meant to be printed one page back to back). The
base cost per scout is only $12, which includes lunch and a patch! The Flyer
is available for your distribution now, and scouts may use it to register for
the retreat.
We sincerely hope all faiths will be
comfortable in attending. We realize that in this geographic area, there
are a lot of LDS packs and troops. They do a great job promoting their
religious scouting emblems, and may choose not to participate.
Additional questions:
Are Girl Scouts (including Brownies and
Juniors) invited? YES, and
the emblems are the same as the Boy Scouts for Independent Christian Churches,
AME, Baptist, Episcopal, CME, Lutheran, Methodist, Presbyterian, and Protestant
faiths. Catholic Girl Scouts have their own emblems, separate from the
Boys.
Why is there no registration
deadline?
Advanced registration is advisable. However, in past years, we
have had many walk-up registrants and just do not - as capacity allows -
want to limit attendance. However, Pax Christi can hold only
approximately 150 scouts (plus parents), and we may run short of workbooks if
we are not able to plan.
Can a Catholic scout from the Denver
diocese attend (as Pax Christi is located in the Colorado Springs
diocese)? YES - Additionally, we would request that Catholic scouts from
that diocese inform the chair of that Catholic Committee. His contact information
is:
Doc Palmere,
Chair for the Denver Catholic Committee on Scouting and Camp Fire
(303)
985-3395 or docp@docp.com
Do you need any adult volunteers?
YES, and I am specifically looking for a God and Family (Grades 4-5)
facilitator (he / she needs to be familiar with that specific program).
We will work to have additional scout leaders - who know the Guide to
Safe Scouting and have completed Youth Protection Training, available to assist.
For additional access to the
registration form, Troop 628 has generously put it on their web
site at http://www.troop628.com/Documents/Retreat_Flyer_2005.pdf.
It is also available in the Upcoming Events section of their front page: http://www.troop628.com/.
