A new Kiwanis Club is being organized in Castle Pines North.
The group will serve the needs of children and young people in the Castle Pines North area, as well as foster a sense of community, according to Janet Moore, the prospective charter president.
“We would welcome anyone who may have an interest in our club to come to one of our meetings,” Moore said. “If they want more information, they can call me at my EdwardJones office, at 720 733-1898.”
The group has started meeting on Tuesdays from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm at the Celtic Crossing restaurant in the BankWest shopping center. All residents, as well as business or professional people who conduct their business in the Castle Pines North community, are welcome to attend the weekly meetings.
The variety of programs scheduled for the upcoming months include a June 29 talk on Iraq with Lt. Col. Joe Rice.
Lt. Col. Rice, a former mayor of Glendale, spent a 15-month tour of duty in Baghdad where the military used him to help teach Iraqis how to run democratic governmental bodies. He recently received a prestigious award from the Colorado Council of Governments. While in Iraq he led the effort to distribute 800 teddy bears shipped to him by the Kiwanis Club of Lakewood to Iraqi children and was featured on Channel 4 news.
Kiwanis International is a worldwide community service organization that allows men and women to take an active community leadership and improvement role. As a group it achieves what individuals cannot do alone.
