Castle Pines North resident Sherry Comes is founder and president of the very successful company, CoffeeCakes.com.  This past year, Comes learned that her adopted son from Guatemala was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis (NF). 

NF is a genetic disorder of the nervous system.  The disease can cause tumors to form on the nerves anywhere in the body at any time.  The tumors can result in terrible disfigurement and deformities, deafness, blindness, brain tumors, cancer and even death. 

Comes, wanting to do something to help those affected by this disease, decided to donate a portion of her company’s proceeds to the charitable organization NF, Inc. and Gillian Anderson.  NF Inc., creates a community of support for those affected with NF through education, advocacy, coalitions, and supporting research for treatments and a cure.

Comes believes it is important to support a good cause and has always wanted to help those in need.  With the success of her business, she found an avenue in which to help.  Coffeecakes.com previously formed a partnership with Erin Brochovich and Cancer411.org, where a percentage of proceeds were donated to cancer research and to help cancer patients and families.  Now, with NF hitting so close to home, Comes has put her passion into helping those who suffer from this genetic disease. 

“It’s easy to get caught in the pettiness of everyday life, but dogs barking hardly compares with what a person with NF deals with on a daily basis,” said Comes.
