Landscaping & Lawn Service
Mike Villers, North Plains Landscape
March, 2009
We hired Mike Villers, then operating as North Plains Landscape, to landscape our home in Whisper Canyon. The workmanship was horrible, he does not honor his warranty, and he abandons the job.
As other reviewers have stated, he does not return calls to complete a project, much less repair the substandard work.
Do yourself a favor, call another landscaper!

Was rude, unhelpful and did a terrible job! In fact, we didn't let him finish. They left a disaster of mulch and the plants they had removed all over the entire yard. They left dirt piles too. My husband called him after the workers dissapeared suddenly in the middle of the day and told the owner (Robert) in an email and on a voice mail for three days, and he would not return the call. He showed up unannounced days later and was rude and acted as if we were inconviencing him! I had to continue to find more piles and tell him to clean it, he kept trying to leave! And they broke a new downspout and didn't even say anything. And the owner did not apologize or even aknowlege this when we told him. The bill has now come at full estimate price! And he didn't do the job as it was supposed to be done. Barely any mulch in the gardens and he just covered up stuff that should have been taken out. AVOID THIS MAN AND HIS COMPANY!

Mike Villers is a horrible business man. He is all over your home if you want to give him money. However, he doesn't finish jobs, doesn't cover his warranty items, and doesn't return calls!!! He is a thief and a snake. Such a fool for not realizing that we will never refer him to anyone we know!

We hired Bill and his company to do the ultimate package for our lawn which provided care March thru October. Our lawn looks beautiful and such a difference from our last lawn company - No Weeds. We then had him do some landscaping for us and it was so easy to coordinate, complete and the results were perfect. Our lawn is what all of our neighbors want. Thanks Bill for a great job.

I would give them zero stars if I could. They don't return phone calls. I never know if they came to my house and did what they were charging me for. I just got charged $325 for a valve replacement on one of my sprinkler heads... and I'm not 100% convinced that they even came out to my house. Jody Sigler is rude. I called with my concerns and all she could tell me was "well I don't know what you want me to tell you". I've had them do the spring package on my lawn. It's STILL full of weeds and looks like crap. Now they want to charge me $75 to turn on my sprinkler system and if anything is "broken" they will provide me a quote. Nevermind the fact that they *just* replaced a valve yesterday - and never even check to see if it was working or not. AVOID them - Save your money - and go elsewhere. They are HORRIBLE!!!

I hired this company to install a flagstone patio and firepit in my backyard. Wish I never had. Below average work and results. Should have known right from the start when they used soil from my yard and garden as fill instead of buying extra road base. Anyone can lay flagstone, but making it attractive is an art, a skill that was lacking at this company. Many problems, too numerous to list here!

We had Mike do some landscape work in our back yard last year (2006) Very poor communication. Never called ahead of coming out (despite our repeated requests) and one time the dogs got out! One of the trees Mike installed did not look well, and when I pointed this out to him, the reply was "don't worry, everything's guaranteed." Sure enough - 4 weeks later, dead tree. No reply to repeated calls on this issue. Now, Artistic is once again marketing services here in CPN. Don't go there!

Hughes Landscaping 303.841.7338
Fall 2005 and Spring 2006
We had Hughes Landscaping landscape our backyard during the Fall of 2005 and Spring of 2006. The results have been very disappointing and discouraging. Both the trees planted by Hughes have died within 6 months with no replacement offer. In addition, Hughes wanted to charge for the removal of the dead trees. Over 40% of the perennial plants planted by Hughes died within the first three months and there was no offer for replacement. The water pump in the water feature contructed by Hughes has had to be replaced twice in six months, with no replacement offer or consultation as to the reason for the failure. They were also tardy to start work, along with many other disappointments.
We would not recommend Hughes Landscaping to anyone.

Worst lawn care service ever. Never knew when or if they came out. Weeds never went away and grass never greened. Phone calls were returned weeks after being left. Shoddy accounting. They weren't aware of what had or had not been billed and they tried to short change us on the credit when we cancelled the service. I believe that they are either an unethical company or they are a small company that is in over their head.

 April 2006
I hired Perspective Landscaping to add new sod to my yard. They did not put down the sod properly and within two weeks it was totally brown. It still has not taken root and the seams between the sod packs are so wide that the weeds are growing out of control, no grass just weeds. It has taken me months and much money fix the sod so it looks decent. They also broke an underground sprinkler pipe and tried to deny responsibility saying "that was already broke". Being that the break was under the new sodded area I got my neighbor to back me up and explain that it could not have already been there. Terrible Company that does not back up their lousy work.

I had a large landscape project done by Centennial last summer. Initially, their price seemed very good and the owner, Larry, seemed honest at the time. As additions and changes were made to "the plan" the cost began escallating quickly. The quality of the work is suspect -- especially with the irrigation system they installed. The pipe is not buried deep enough and easily freezes.
We lost two trees that they sold to us and planted after they sat in the hot sun for a couple of weeks unplanted. I was told "don't worry all of this is under warranty". There really is no warranty -- only a 50% credit toward the tree plus planting and delivery charges added.
I would stay away from this guy next time.

We were very unhappy with the builder's take on our backyard's grading. Sunshine was able to take a poor grading job by the builder and turn it into a lovely feature. We now have a dry river bed and lovely retaining wall. They were done in a very short period of time, even with the heavy rains we have been receiving. The president Don Siegel has been a pleasure to deal with...so I would gladly recommend them, and without a doubt use them again. Thanks Sunshine.

DR Horton uses this company for their landscaping. We had to let them do the work on our front yard, and used someone else for our back yard. The owner, Mark is the most awful person to work with. We fought with them for a week to put topsoil in prior to installing the sod in our front yard. The sprinkler system broke after less then 6 months of use. We told them forever that the grading wasn't right, well Douglas County nabbed them and they had to redo it. We specifically asked for a statement of work prior to them doing anything...I got a call from my frantic daughter saying my front yard was missing, and the 12 foot conifer that The Gardens Nursery put in for us was pulled up and just laying in what was the front yard. It took us 3 months of fighting to get my yard put back in...which is still not right.
I've seen the contract work they do in Serena and Vaquero and its awful...makes you wonder why DR Horton is still using them.

Autumn Landscaping was a nightmare from start to finish. They put our tree in the front yard in April and never came back to put in the sod, sprinklers etc. We called and called and finally screamed and they just put our sod and sprinklers in in July. The sprinklers now nicely water our neighbor's driveway, which is the current problem we are trying to get resolved. Terrible customer service as well.

A Carpenter's Son at 303-755-2848
May, 2002
"We didn't even hire this guy. The attractive brick deck he was building for our neighbor winds up being so high that the dirt they hauled in comes over onto our property line. I assumed he was going to move the loose dirt back. But no, they haul in boulders and pack down the "hill" on our ground. Those really ugly pink boulders, by the way. Ok, stop and think. A hill? Some boulders? Some trees? Maybe if I try really hard, I can imagine all this turning out alright. Till you realize the hill is like a dam diverting water onto the patio of our finished basement. Then a couple of days ago they drive their front loader up into our yard within 2 feet of our house, pulverizing the ground and causing changes in our back yard's drainage onto yet another neighbor's yard. I put in a post after last time to stop them but today they've pulled the post out and drove in again while I was at work. The last straw has been his pretension to move dirt around on OUR ground to create some drainage different than the normal central drainage between the homes. And to put more of that ugly pink rock on OUR retaining wall that moves the water flow a couple of feet past our patio before it drains into our yard. If we'd had a chance to think about how we were going to coordinate this I might be singing his praises. But not now. I must have misread the sign coming into our development. I thought it said "serenity," not "the twilight zone".

"Perennial Landscape came out and renovated our existing pond and waterfall, designed and installed a large perennial flower garden.
Unlike our past experiences with other landscapers, these projects took under a week to complete and we paid what was written on our original bid. What we liked most about our experience with this company was their professionalism. Not only did they do an excellent job, they followed up after the job was completed to check that everything was working properly and to our satisfaction.
It was wonderful to finally work with a company that takes pride in their work and stands behind it."

The custom engraving was performed by Written in Stone Creations. They were able to take my rough idea, suggest a more refined design and sandblast it into the stone. The owner was extremely friendly and knowledgable. The rates were very reasonable and the capability of his operation far exceeded my expectations. He is able to engrave in all types of stone and glass with an endless variety of fonts and designs. Sunshine Landscaping did our lawn this past summer and did a really good job! Don from Sunshine incorporated some things and used more natural components than we would not have considered if we had done ourselves. Overall they were quick to complete the job and cleaned up after themselves which was very nice.
Don seems very customer service oriented once you get his attention. He is not always quick to return your call which can be aggravating. You just have to catch him early (7am) and set up a time to meet with you. He may not be the cheapest in the business but he stands behind his product and will work with you to take some things out if necessary.
We definitely recommend at least getting them out for a quote as a comparison. He has done quite a few in the Forest Park area that you can see and talk to those people about also.

Barber Landscaping provided the lowest price bid on our project yet the sales person seemed very knowledgeable and competent. Unfortunately, we had problems with every aspect of the project except the sprinkler system and the grass. They did not match the height of the rocks to the grass, the small retaining walls were poorly done, they did not take the electrical easement into account, the flagstone patio looks like my 11 year old daughter did the work, they did not show up for days on end and did not return phone calls, and on and on. They did a nice job with the grass, but that is about it. I'm quite dissatisfied.
