    SEPTEMBER 2001:

Are we ready for a CPN Recreation Center?

(Back to the latest survey results)

And MORE of what you've had to say about it...
    from Sept. 1 through Sept. 30, 2001:

9-25 "Don't forget about babysitting! And what about "kid's programs" (crafts, sports, etc. for the older kids (3yrs+) who wouldn't want to be in "baby-sitting! swim lessons - red cross"

9-23 "Lets get started! We need to keep our kids close to our homes...this would really help! (Add a meeting room/conference room for rent.)"

9-20 "I DO NOT WANT MY HOMEOWNERS DUES INCREASED IN ORDER TO PAY FOR A REC. CENTER. THOSE WHO WISH TO USE THIS FACILITY SHOULD SHOULDER TO COST THROUGH FEES OR MEMBERSHIPS. I WILL WITHHOLD PAYMENT OF ANY INCREASE IN CPN HOA DUES IF ASSESSED FOR A REC. CENTER."

9-20 "What a great idea! We currently drive to Castle Rock Rec Center for swimming for our 2 kids, Pottery lab, weight training and roller hockey (near Walmart). It would be great to ride bikes to our OWN local Rec center. I would not mind paying extra yearly dues and "a la carte" for a menu of services. Please build before some "strip mall" goes in there."

9-19 "We're in favor of the rec center, but feel it should be paid for primarily by those who use it, not by a large increase in hoa dues."

9-19 "Would like to see a more complete vita-fit course thru the existing trails in CPN...."

  9-19 "It's a GREAT idea...full speed ahead."

9-19 "How 'bout corporate sponsorhip to offset costs? - "Invesco Rec Center @ CPN".

9-18 "Build one now.... we are ready and our community is definitly lacking with-out one."

9-18 "I would LOVE to have a convenient rec center that all family members could enjoy. Maybe even including classes and off-track programs for the kids. My only concern is that, if we're going to go to all the trouble and expense of building this, we need to do it WELL. For instance, the 'new' Parker RC on Lincoln seemed pretty user-unfriendly to me the only time I went there to check it out. I like the Castle Rock RC in general, but their weight machines are a joke -- not much there and what is there is often broken -- and no good place to stretch, which I feel is a pretty basic requirement for a real rec center. So, PLEASE, make it a truly useful and fun place or don't bother at all. Oh, and lots of windows would be nice!"

9-18 "We definitely need a recreation center in our community. I'm sick of driving 15 minutes to Inverness or Castle Rock to get a work out."

9-18 "This would be SUCH a great thing to have. We're SOOOOO far from any real town, that it would be great to have our OWN meeting/exercise/classes location! please do it!"

9-18 "I am really looking forward to a rec center. The neighborhood kids would really use the roller hockey court, in line skating area and climbing wall! A pool is a big want item too!"

9-18 "Whether we should build one really depends on how much it would cost the homeowners in taxes, fees, dues and whether the cost would be justified. So, it would help answer your questions if potential cost information could be provided."
(As we understand it, part of being unable to fix a general budget or attach costs is to not fully know the scope of what the community would like to see a facility contain - which is why the question asks for a consensus of general interest in a varitety of amenities.)

9-18 "Would like a community center but am NOT willing to pay more than 300 a year for a FAMILY membership. Would like the center to be only available to CPN residents."

9-18 "Ever since Colorado Athletic Club and Inverness removed most of their racquetball courts, there is really no (upscale) facility to play racquetball in Douglas County, except the Highlands Ranch Rec Center which Castle Rock Residents can't get into. Also, many of the DTC athletic clubs have taken out their courts. We could really use an upscale club with 6-10 racquetball courts."

9-18 "I cannot understand why there are not community tennis courts available in the area."

9-18 "I think it would be a great asset to have an indoor swimming pool. I know that currently the Castle Rock Cuda swim team is looking for a new home and could help bring in a new revenue stream to a rec center. They currently use the Castle Rock Rec center but are quickly growing and need more room. Just a thought."

9-18 "We really need a rec center. It needs to be big enough so that kid's sports programs could be run out of it. There should be a red light installed at Castle Pines Pkwy & Yorkshire so that kids can cross Castle Pines Pkwy."

9-18 "Fantastic idea for all of us and the youth of our community!"

9-18 "I think a rec center is a GREAT idea!"

9-18 "No, do not want a rec center."

9-18 "I absolutely love the idea of a rec center in CPN!"

9-17 "We are planning on moving to this area and are counting on a rec center very soon!!!"

9-17 "Interested in all childrens sports activities, family oriented, kids central information center ...."

9-15 "Where will it be? I think open area at Monarch and CP Parkway would be great - already high traffic area with light going in so it won't disrupt other areas."

9-12 "I believe that there needs to be consideration to a private-pay-for-use facility on Metro District property."

9-11 "The best location is the North West corner of Monarch & Castle Pines Parkway."

9-5 "Day care available for parents that want to work out."

  9-5 "Go for it!"

9-4 "This would be a wonderful addition to our community. We would definitely use it and it would be great in the winter. What about babysitting for classes? Give us more info and bring it on."

9-4 "I think it is a really good idea."

9-3 "I live in a neighborhood that does not have any facilities - the community has always lacked for indoor recreational facilities; and besides that, it would help the area's value."

9-3 "On what planet would I be pleased to see monies placed toward competing with area commercial recreation/athletic facilities. Needing to have everything within a whisper of us is how we got all this stuff building on top of itself in the first place. I moved out here to get away from all that upscale urban blight. Am I the only one who thinks all of this is nuts??"
(Back to the latest survey results)
September's local commerce question was suspended due to the two-part nature of the survey.
