Advanced Physical and Sports Therapy

Advanced Physical and Sports Therapy provides a hands-on approach different from standard physical therapy, and owner Doug Heckenkamp, M.P.T., says that patients as well as doctors can see the difference.
Doug opened his office in the Safeway Center in August of 2002. Since then, business has been growing thanks to doctor recommendations. About half the patients he sees have sports-related injuries, while the rest have the neck, back and sciatica pains that occur with daily life.
Heckenkamp has an extensive background in gymnastics, and maintains his own active life-style with mountain biking, hiking, skiing, snowboarding, etc. He says that 90% of the athletic injuries that walk through the door, Ive had. I know the frustrations [theyre] feeling.
What sets Advanced Physical and Sports Therapy apart is the personal manipulation of the joint, bone and soft tissue. When a patient comes in, I always ask, whats been done before? Usually, theres been no hands-onnothing that requires a trained hand. Your grandmother could do it.
But after four weeks or so with Heckenkamp, patients will says theyre getting more range. He quotes patients exclaiming happily, You actually touched me. Thats what made the difference.
Doug stays on top of his profession with continuing education classes he takes nationwide, including at the Institute of Physical Art based in Steamboat. In addition to physical therapy, Advanced also provides custom orthotics, which are built according to the patients weight. I looked for years and finally found a company [whose shoe} truly controls the foot through the full-gait cycle.
Advanced Physical & Sports Therapy is located at 562 Castle Pines Parkway, Suite 6-C. 720-733-3655.
