Quick Response Leads to Arrests in Robbery

In one of a series of grocery store robberies to hit the Metro area in recent months, the Castle Pines King Soopers was targeted on January 8.

At 7:40 p.m., deputies responded to a 911 call about a possible armed robbery. Two armed men were reported to have robbed the store and fled on foot.

While en-route, deputies observed a small gold sedan leaving the area at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was later located and stopped at Peoria and E-470. "Currency was taken from the store and was later recovered in the vehicle," said Sgt. Alan Stanton, Public Information Officer for the Douglas County Sheriff's office. Only one suspect was in the vehicle and he was arrested without incident.

Officers assigned to the crime scene in the 500 block of Castle Pines Parkway attempted to contact a second possible suspect. Following a foot chase, the suspect fired upon the officers. Officers returned fire, injuring the suspect. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to Swedish Medical Center. His injuries were not life threatening. No officers or citizens were injured.

Both suspects were positively identified through the Automated Fingerprint Identification System as: Donald Burton Price, 46, and Henry Lee White, 36, both of Aurora. Each will be charged with aggravated robbery, a Class 3 Felony, and White will also be charged with Criminal Attempt (Murder in the first degree), a Class 2 Felony.

King Soopers Manager Jill Telitz commented that she was very pleased with the quick response of law enforcement. “The Douglas County Sheriffs and Castle Rock Police were phenomenal in how fast they responded,” she said.

The Director of Consumer Affairs for King Soopers in Denver, Trail Daugherty, noted that the store’s employees have received extensive training in what to do in the event of a robbery. “The safety of our customers and employees is our number one concern” he said. “Our policy is always not to resist.”
