Air Traffic Abatement Public Input Period to be Set Soon

The air traffic noise generated by planes taking off and landing at Centennial Airport has been steadily rising over the past few years.  The airport receives hundreds of reports and complaints every month – mostly from residents of Lone Tree and Greenwood Village.

Last August, Centennial Airport conducted a “150 Study” which resulted in 12 recommendations for future noise mitigation policies, and has forwarded it to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

Soon, the FAA will begin a 180-day public input period in which residents of CPN, and areas surrounding Centennial Airport, can voice concerns and comments about airport noise and low flying aircraft.

“One of the biggest concerns is that residents of Lone Tree and Greenwood Village will voice so many complaints that the FAA will allow Centennial Airport to change flight patterns, which will ultimately affect CPN residents.  Therefore, it is essential that CPN residents voice concerns that potential altered flight paths over CPN will not be tolerated,” says Maureen Shul, Vice President of the CPN Master Association Board of Directors.

When the 180-day period has begun, CPN residents will be alerted via e-mail, the CPN website, and The Connection newsletter.  Information on how and where to send concerns and complaints will be included.  After the 180-day period, the FAA will make its final determinations.

More information on the “150 Study” is available at www.centennialairport.com.  Citizens can report current complaints to the Noise Complaint Hotline at 303-790-4709.
