2004 Slash/Mulch Program Begins in Douglas County

The 2004 Slash/Mulch Program for Douglas County will be held every Saturday, beginning June 5, 2004 and ending August 28, 2004.

The program is part of the County’s wildfire mitigation and recycling efforts, and is also an aid for helping County residents clean up wildfire hazard materials.

There are two goals to this program.  First, to provide a drop-off location for residents to reduce, reuse and recycle slash/mulch materials.  This will lessen the fire hazards within the county.  And, second, to provide free mulch to residents at the end of the season.

The slash drop-off is located at Plum Creek Wastewater Authority, 1400 Caprice Drive in Castle Rock.  The site is open on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Acceptable materials include:

  • Tree branches and shrubbery with a maximum length of 6 feet and maximum diameter of 12 inches.  All loads must be covered and tied.

Unacceptable materials include:

  • Stumps
  • Roots
  • Lumber
  • Ties
  • Grass
  • Dirt
  • Weeds
  • Household trash
  • Appliances

Residents will be able to pick up free mulch material at the site on Saturday, September 11, 2004 from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

The program is a cooperative effort sponsored by Douglas County Government, Plum Creek Wastewater Authority, and the Town of Castle Rock.  For additional information, please contact Douglas County Emergency Services at 303-660-7589.
