Of the three declared District II County Commissioner candidates vying for the Republican slot on the ballot, only one will survive the primary on August 10.
Although the Republican caucus delegates had nominated Jeff Wasden of Highlands Ranch during the May Caucus, Steve Boand and Bill Henry each obtained the required 367 signatures to enter the race as petition candidates.
The winner of the primary will face Democrat and Castle Pines North resident in the November election. Gilbert currently serves on the CPN Master Association Board as well as on the HOA#1 Board.

All Douglas County voters elect all three Commissioners, who serve four-year terms. One commissioner resides in each of the three districts. District II includes Castle Pines, Castle Rock, Larkspur, Franktown, Roxborough, a small part of Highlands Ranch and other southern areas of Douglas County.

If Wasden were to win the seat, all three Douglas County commissioners will live along the county’s northern border, a fact that inspired both Boand and Henry to pursue their petition drives.
The District II seat is being vacated by Jim Sullivan. In 2000, Sullivan ran unopposed in the primary, receiving 1,837 votes. Sullivan, who has served District 2 for 16 years, has endorsed Wasden.

Please note that polling places have been changed for this election, and you may be assigned to one that is not the closest to you geographically. Polling places for Castle Pines North include, but are not limited to, Timber Trail Elementary, the Castle Pines Community Center, South Metro Fire Station #36, Kings Crossing Clubhouse, and DCS Montessori School.
All voters must provide identification at the polls.
To vote in the November 2 General Election, all voters must register by October 4.
Absentee ballots are available by submitting an application to the Clerk and Recorder’s office, 300 Wilcox Street, in Castle Rock. Absentee ballots will be mailed approximately 30 days before the election. Voted Absentee ballots must be received at the Clerk and Recorder’s office no later than 7:00 p.m. on Election Day, November 4, in order to be counted.
