An article appeared in the last issue of The Connection regarding bobcat sightings in the CPN vicinity. The article stirred up some questions about wildlife in general - - what should we really watch for, what is dangerous, and just exactly what lives in our backyards?
Spotting wildlife near CPN homes is commonplace. In fact, one resident in Kings Crossing, Jim Mason, keeps a running list of all the wildlife he sees from his backyard deck. His list currently includes elk, deer, foxes, skunks, prairie dogs, porcupines and owls.
“Just a few weeks ago, I got a glimpse of what appeared to be a five-foot long, three-foot wide creature waddling across my neighbor’s yard. I pursued it in an attempt to figure out what it was, and I finally got close enough to realize it was a porcupine!” exclaims Mason.
Remarks like Mason’s are not unusual from CPN residents. Therefore, it’s important that residents stay educated about Colorado wildlife in general, and what animals may be living near our homes.
