Introducing Castle View Park
Castle Pines North’s new 21 acre park has a new name - - Castle View Park. CPN resident Kaylyn Riggs, 9, entered the winning name that was recently selected by the Castle Pines Parks Authority board. The Board selected the name from 112 entries from local children.
Castle View Park will be a place where residents can relax, play and visit with neighbors and friends. It will also meet the additional needs for playgrounds, ball fields and other unique park amenities. It will be located at the major entrance of Castle Pines North, between Lagae Road and Yorkshire Drive. (Click here for a map)
Castle View Park, designed by Design Concepts, will feature two “plaza” areas, Castle Plaza and the Village Plaza, which will offer restrooms, picnic shelters, playgrounds, castle walls and a turret.
“Water is an important element of this park,” said Metro District Parks and Open Space Manager Charlie Fagan. “The Castle Plaza area will feature a waterfall, and an interactive water maze play area.”
The Village Plaza area will have a spray feature and water well near the playground area, which can be enjoyed on hot summer days. “The unique water features of the park will provide exciting activities for all ages,” said Fagan. “We also want to focus on conservation, so the features will use a minimal amount of water. The water used for the park will often be re-circulated and re-used for park irrigation.”
A network of trails and paths will also provide a relaxing atmosphere for pedestrians of all ages. The area will have several unique features along the walking paths including remnant castle walls and stone monuments.
The multi-purpose athletic field will connect the Castle Plaza and Village Plaza areas. The field will be artificial turf which can be used throughout the year, and will reduce water use. The baseball field will be a sunken area that will feature remnant stone walls for spectator seating. The grass for this area will be irrigated by an irrigation pond that is supplied by runoff from site water features of the park.
In addition, the in-line hockey area and skate park will utilize a variety of elements that will be appealing to residents. The baseball field, multi-purpose field and the in-line hockey area will be open for general play and team practices.
Groundbreaking for phase one of Castle View Park is scheduled to begin in January.
