Mail Thefts in CPN

Residents of CPN should be aware that thefts from mail boxes have occurred in and around the CPN area. The intent of thieves breaking into mail boxes is to obtain personal identifying information and commit identity theft. Normally checks and credit cards are a preferred target for thieves, however lately anything containing personal financial information is targeted. With checks being readily printed off of personal computers all that is needed is banking information.

Help is needed in an effort to catch these suspects. Please be aware of suspicious vehicles in your neighborhoods in and around your mail box. If a suspicious vehicle is observed, please obtain license plate information and an accurate description of the vehicle and its occupants. Report the information immediately to both the Douglas Co. Sheriffs dept. and the US Postal Inspection Service by calling 911 and the USPIS office at 303-313-5320. You can help minimize your opportunity of becoming a victim by taking the following precautions:
  • Never leave your mail overnight in the box

  • Mail all outgoing mail from a blue collection box at a nearby Post Office, not the outgoing slot in the neighborhood box.

  • Pick up your mail in a timely manner

  • Have your mail held at the Post Office when on vacation or away from home for an extended time.

  • Help prevent I D Theft by checking your credit
    periodically

This information provided by Jeff Reed, a CPN resident who is a Federal Agent with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service.
