The Castle Pines North Metro District is currently working to develop an integrated water resources plan, (IWRP). Like other communities throughout the South Metro area, the District has already begun to address the future water supply needs of the community.

The IWRP will consider multiple approaches designed to meet long-term water needs for Castle Pines North, including an assessment of the roles of existing groundwater supplies and future surface water supplies

A variety of water supply options are being considered by the District. Some of these options include: partnering with other entities to obtain surface water storage and supply, additional conservation and reuse measures, and conjunctive use, or using surface water along with groundwater to maximize the longevity of an aquifer.

Once completed, the IWRP will enable the District to select the best combination of supplies necessary in order to provide a reliable and sustainable water supply. The plan is a four-step process that includes:

• Investigating the current and future water demands;
  
  
• Assessing the effects of existing and future water conservation efforts;
  
  
• Evaluating the long-term sustainability of the District’s existing groundwater supply;
  
  
• Developing a long-term water supply plan.
  
  

In order to meet the needs of the community, the IWRP will consider a variety of factors including economics, environmental issues, and public input. Watch for more information about the IWRP coming soon.


A community information meeting will be held to communicate key objectives of the IWRP and to receive feedback from residents of CPN. The first meeting is scheduled for November 7, at 7 p.m. at the Community Center, located at 7404 Yorkshire Drive.
