Local Cub Scouts Compete in Photo Contest
|
||||||||||
In November, local Cub Scout Troop 826 competed in a photography contest. Mary Williams, a Castle Pines North resident and Cub Scout mother organized the contest for the entire troop. “I wanted to introduce something different that offered a creative outlet for the boys,” said Williams. The scouts not only tried their hand at shooting pictures, they also had the opportunity to learn how photography is used in the world as a profession. Kari Greer, a local photographer and former firefighter who now photographs fire, attended a troop meeting and showed some of her photos and answered questions. She also helped create the assignments that the scouts then went out and shot. The contest categories were Landscape, Portraiture and Abstract. The boys were given disposal cameras to work with, or they could also use a camera of their choice. Each participating den was responsible for film development. “The photos are great! It’s amazing to see what young children can create when given the opportunity,” said Brenda Bloemke owner of BB’s Coffee House. The winning photos are on display at BB’s Coffee House, 7437 Village Square Drive. |
