Slain Denver Police Officer a Resident of Castle Pines North

Castle Pines North neighbors extend our deepest condolences to the family of Denver police detective and CPN resident Donald “Donnie” Young.  Young, 43, was shot and killed on Sunday, May 8.

The Young family has lived in Tapestry Hills for five years. Young is survived by his wife, Kelly, and daughters Kourtney, 13, and Kelsey, 5.

Young received numerous awards during his 12 years on the Denver police force including:  the police department's Medal of Honor, a distinguished service cross, 10 official commendations and two commendatory letters.  Young graduated from the police academy in December 1993 and had worked with the vice-narcotics and domestic violence units. He was assigned to the fugitive-bomb squad when he died.

He was fatally shot while he was working as an off-duty security guard.  As of Tuesday, May 10, a suspect had been identified, but is still at large.

Young's funeral is set for Friday, May 13, at 10:30 a.m. at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, located at 1530 Logan Street in Denver. He will be buried at Fort Logan Cemetery.

A memorial fund has been set up for Young’s family. Contributions can be made to:
