FAA Completes Centennial Aircraft Noise Study

The Federal Aviation Association (FAA), has completed its “150 Study,” which contains recommendations that would help with aircraft noise in our area.

After Centennial Airport completes updates their noise contour maps, the FAA can proceed with the 180-day public input period.  It is expected that the 180-period will begin sometime this year.

After the public input period ends, the FAA will decide which of the 12 recommendations contained in the study will be adopted.  Some, such as the opening of a noise office, have already been adopted, but the majority of the recommendations need FAA approval.

Some of the recommendations include the banning of Stage I aircraft (which make the most noise);  banning Stage II aircraft from flying from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.; allowing aircraft to fly over Cherry Creek State Park before turning west; and, having aircraft head south for five miles and gain altitude before making any turns. Approval of flight track changes and curfews are difficult to achieve.

When the 180day public input period is set, watch for details in CPN's e-mail, on the website, and the newsletter.

For any further information or updates, contact Master Association board member, Maureen Shul at 720-733-0491. Citizens can report noise complaints to the Centennial Airport Noise Complaint Line at 303-790-4709.
