Land Issues Slow Castle View Park

Castle View Park, a 21-acre project at Castle Pines Parkway and Yorkshire Drive, was originally set to begin this fall. Now, the Metro District has encountered delays in the park development process.

Currently, the Metro District needs to obtain additional land in order to begin the project. “A lot of work has been done on Castle View Park, unfortunately the challenge of obtaining all the land is not yet complete,” said Metro District Parks and Open Space Manager Charlie Fagan.

The District currently has two land issues affecting the construction of Castle View Park. One acre, adjacent to the Community Center parking area, is needed to begin phase one of the park. This acre is currently owned by Douglas County.

The Metro District also needs to obtain another 5.3 acres of land adjacent to Castle Pines Parkway. This parcel is owned by the Lagae family and is currently zoned for commercial development. “We’ve already received 4.3 acres of land from the Lagae family, and we currently are working with them to transfer the second parcel of land to the District,” said Fagan.

According to Fagan, phase one of the park could begin, “if we can purchase the acre from the County.” As currently designed, phase two of the park cannot be completed without the missing 5.3 acres. “We are looking at all possibilities and trying to determine if we can redesign the park without these 5.3 acres,” said Fagan.

The District will continue to work on alternative park plans. “Castle View Park is an excellent park plan and it will be the pride of this community,” said Fagan. “We are doing our best to get these land issues resolved as quickly as possible.”

Once all land is obtained for Castle View, the Parks Authority will oversee the design and construction of the park.
