I-25/Castle Pines Parkway Bridge Interchange Project Complete

It’s finally done. The construction at the intersection of I-25 and Castle Pines Parkway that took two years is finally complete.

"The growth in this area made the new interchange necessary, and to have this project completed with such minimal inconvenience was fantastic,” said Maureen Shul, member of the CPN Master Association Board.

“I don't think people expected the interchange to be as aesthetically pleasing as it is, nor that it would make such a positive difference in the flow of traffic. The full appreciation for this project will be felt in the winter months, when we no longer have to maneuver across the old two lane bridge in icy conditions," added Shul.

The construction lasted a bit longer than anticipated, with a completion date in mid-July instead of late June, but according to Norm Chiles of Hamon Contractors, “On behalf of the Colorado Department of Transportation and Hamon Contractors, we believe that the interchange is very nice looking and area residents will benefit from it long-term.”

The final piece of the project included a last-minute decision to install a median at the  intersection of the southbound I-25 exit ramp and Castle Pines Parkway.  The median created a continuous yield lane for vehicles exiting I-25, with no stopping required. This has minimized traffic congestion.

The reason for the rebuild was that “the old interchange was starting to show unacceptable traffic flow, especially during peak hours,” said Chiles.  And, the new design will accommodate future development east of I-25.  For more information on future development around CPN, click here.

“At some point in the future, CDOT will convert I-25 into an eight-lane highway (four lanes in each direction) from Castle Rock north to Lincoln Avenue, which will also include a frontage road. However, no funding has been allocated to this project, so it will be a while before anything happens.
