Douglas County Citizens and Government Help Katrina Victims


 
On September 23 Douglas County will adopt the Katrina ravaged victims that have been relocated in Colorado at the Lowery Air Force Base and those victims of Jackson County Mississippi in an all day FUNd-Raiser event.  The event will be held at the Douglas County Fairgrounds in the Event Center.  Activities are scheduled from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. until 12 p.m. 

Kids for Katrina will be held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.  Children can get their faces painted and jump in bounce houses.  There will also be an area where kids can make handmade notes and cards for children in evacuation centers in Jackson County, MS. Local sports celebrities will be available for autographs and law enforcement vehicles will be on display. 

A collection will also take place for non-perishable food, personal hygiene items, children’s toys, dog and cat food, pet carriers, leashes, collars and cash donations.  All the items collected will be transported by Graebel Truck Lines to the Salvation Army and the Humane Society to help relocated victims housed in Colorado. 

Evening Events will begin at 5 p.m. and run until midnight.  Supporters will eat BBQ from Flying Horse catering and dance to live music from the Shiloh River Band, D. J. Rob Shank as well as the Douglas County High School Orchestra.  Tickets can be purchased in advance at the Douglas County Event Center, Pegasus restaurant in Castle Rock, the WarHorse Inn in Parker and Bisetti’s Ristorante in Highlands Ranch.  Tickets will also be available at the door. 

Event Ticket Prices:

Adults - $15 

Children age 6-17 -$6

Five and under are free. 

A silent and live auction will also be run during the evening festivities.  Items for auction include a signed game jersey from Colorado Avalanche Captain Joe Sakic, gift certificates to area day spas and hair salons, golf passes to the Castle Pines Golf Club and many others. 

Proceeds from the event will be donated directly to the adopted County of Jackson, Mississippi.  An account has also been set up with the Castle Rock Bank at 501 Wilcox Street in Castle Rock for those wishing to make direct monetary donations.
