Update to Current CPN-Vicinity Highway Construction Projects

Carpool Lot to Open in June or July

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) still anticipates a completion date of June 15 for the new interchange at Castle Pines Parkway and I-25.  Construction is moving along as scheduled, and no major setbacks have been reported.

CPN residents have been frequently asking the following two questions: “Why is a carpool lot being constructed, and when will it be completed?”  And, “Is Castle Pines Parkway going to extend east?”

New Carpool Lot

The new carpool lot is now visible from I-25, but it is not completed yet.  The carpool lot, when finished, will be used by individuals who want to meet at the lot, and carpool to a destination.

There will be no bus service available from the lot.  CPN is not in the RTD district - - RTD boundaries end at Lone Tree.

As of press time, the carpool lot still needed the top two inches of asphalt to be laid.  And, according to CDOT, “the lot will definitely not officially open before June or July.”

After the completion of the entire construction project at the Castle Pines Parkway and I-25, CDOT will turn the parking lot and its maintenance over to Douglas County.

Castle Pines Parkway Extension

It’s obvious that Castle Pines Parkway extends about 1,000 yards east of I-25.  However, there are no immediate plans to extend the road any further.  Eventually, Douglas County, along with developers, will extend Castle Pines Parkway.

CDOT states that, “Douglas County has plans to ultimately connect Castle Pines Parkway to State Highway 83 (Parker Road) at Stroh Road, but that's at least five years away.”

Funding for this project was approved by voters in November 2004, and the County is working on a design, but no definitive dates have been set yet.

Other Construction Milestones

In March, storm drainage was completed, and into April, CPN residents may notice:

  • Earthwork on the existing southbound off-ramp from I-25 to Castle Pines Parkway;

  • Slope paving on the northbound and southbound sides of I-25;

  • Seeding and erosion control;

  • Permanent lighting installation;

  • Concrete pavement installation on the new southbound I-25 off-ramp onto Castle Pines Parkway.

There will also be various lane closures in April during the day and night.  The Master Association will alert residents via e-mail if a known full highway or ramp closure is scheduled.
