Buffalo Ridge Principal Announces Retirement

Barry Meigs, the principal of Buffalo Ridge Elementary (BRE) for the past five years, announced in November, 2005 that he is retiring at the end of the 2006 school year.

In his career at BRE, Meigs counts the improvement of the school’s curriculum as one of his accomplishments. “Our curriculum is aligned better. That means we are more seamless in our instruction as children move up in grades,” said Meigs. The Colorado Student Assessment Program (CSAP) scores for BRE are higher now than when Meigs arrived five years ago. Meigs hopes the next principal will continue striving to reach his goal of being rated number one in Colorado.

Meigs' experience with BRE has been great. He commented, “The students, parents and the staff are the absolute best I have ever worked with!” After more than 30 years as an educator and administrator, it’s time to slow down and pursue interests that have taken a back seat to the molding of young minds.

The search for a new BRE principal will take place in late January and early February. A decision is anticipated by mid-February. For those interested in learning how the principal selection takes place visit the BRE website at www.dcsd.k12.co.us/elementary/bre/.
