Three State Parks in Douglas County are under an open fire ban.  Chatfield, Roxborough, and Castlewood Canyon State Parks all fall under the guidelines issued in the ban.  All outdoor fires, such as campfires, warming fires, charcoal grill fires, fireworks and any other activity that poses a considerable risk of starting a fire are prohibited on state lands.

Governor Bill Owens issued an executive order January 9 that prohibits open burning on state lands at elevations below 8,000 feet.  Currently, only the mentioned three State Parks are under fire restrictions in Douglas County.

Local government is evaluating the potential for fire danger and will enact fire restrictions if necessary.  A fire ban is issued when weather conditions, lack of precipitation and heavy fuel loading that create a significant threat of fire are present.
