Tri for the Cure: A Swim, Bike and Run for Breast Cancer

by Elean Gersack

On Sunday, August 6, women from around Denver will swim, bike and run to raise money for the fight against breast cancer. Tri for the Cure will be held at Cherry Creek State Park (near Belleview and I-25) and all fundraising proceeds will support the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Many women from Castle Pines North (CPN) will participate in this great cause. A group of five playgroup friends registered a pledge for good health and to support a great cause. According to one of the women, Tammy Abramovitz, two of her friends - one female and one male - were recently diagnosed with breast cancer. “It can happen to anyone, even men. It is nice to give back and help,” said Abramovitz.

Swimming is usually the component that keeps women from attempting a triathlon. It happens to be Abramovitz’s strong suit, though, so she decided to try the triathalon “I did the Danskin Triathlon a few years back and really enjoyed it. I am excited to do this one with my friends,” said Abramovitz.

Sally Wagner, a life-long runner from CPN, has been participating in triathlons for two years. Although her goals are to stay fit and have fun, the cause makes her feel good about doing it. “Running the Bolder Boulder is a lot of fun, but it doesn’t give me the same satisfaction as participating in an event such as Tri for the Cure,” said Wagner.

Anyone interested in participating in Tri for the Cure, can to register for $75 per person or $140 for a team of two or three people. Space is limited to the first 3,000 registrants. For more information or to register, visit www.triforthecure-denver.com.
