“Under the Sea” Book Fair Raises Thousands

The Buffalo Ridge Elementary School Book Fair, held in October, raised over $4,000 for the school. Money raised from this event will be used for technology updates, character programs, additional playground fencing, and science curriculum. The “Under the Sea” Reading Adventure theme featured a “Sensational Shark” presentation from Denver’s Downtown Aquarium that was a big hit with all the kids.

Kindergarten Registration

Buffalo Ridge Elementary (BRE) will enroll kindergarteners sometime in early January. For specific dates and time, please call the school at 303-387-5575. Please plan to bring a copy of the child’s birth certificate, immunization records and proof of residency.

Character Counts

The character trait for December is “Responsibility” symbolized by the color green. In January, the trait will be “Fairness” represented by the color orange. Do not forget to dress in the monthly trait color each Wednesday to show support for the character counts program!

Winter Break

Remember, winter break is just around the corner. The school will be closed from Dec. 14 - Jan. 1.

Upcoming BREA Meetings

December and January Buffalo Ridge Educational Alliance (BREA) meetings will be held on Wednesday, December 6 and Wednesday, January 10. Meetings are held in the cafeteria at 9:15 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Get involved in the school and find out how to volunteer.

Safety First

Larry Borland, Executive Director of Safety and Transportation for the Douglas County School District, presented safety information at the BREA meeting on November 1. “Learning is first...safety is always,” said Borland. Borland discussed the Douglas County Emergency Management Procedures as well as planned potential safety measures for the near term and future months. Parents, teachers and administrators shared thoughts and ideas about various ways to improve safety. On the slate for the near term is an intercom system to be used at the main doors. This would allow doors to remain locked during school hours and for front office staff to remotely open doors for parents and visitors.
