Cherokee Ranch Launches Second Season
CPN Residents Big Supporters
by Lisa Crockett

Cherokee Ranch and Castle, a historic location in Douglas County, has opened its second season of music and drama. The property is located in Sedalia and was sold in 1996 by its owner, Mildred “Tweet” Kimball, to Douglas County as a conservation easement.

The property is home to a Scottish-style castle, which houses an impressive antiques collection, as well as a working cattle ranch. The ranch and castle are used for tours and other educational functions as well as weddings and social events. Every Wednesday afternoon, English tea (complete with scones and clotted cream) is served at the castle.

The performing arts series, which started in May, boasts 20 performances this year, an increase from last year’s 16. Performances are varied and include classical music, jazz, Shakespeare and even a special performance of “Alice in Wonderland” designed for family attendance.

“Part of our mission here is to be a resource to the community,” said Donna Wilson, CEO of the Cherokee Ranch and Castle Foundation. “Our research tells us that a lot of our support last year came from Castle Pines North, and we’re so grateful for that. We’re excited about what we do and we appreciate neighborhood support.”

This year’s season runs through December 21.

Several summertime concerts are held outdoors. Admission prices include a pre-performance wine tasting, supper buffet and castle tour as well as a post-performance dessert and the opportunity to talk to performers.

Cherokee Ranch and Castle is located at 6113 N. Daniels Park Road, Sedalia. Ticket information can be found at www.cherokeeranch.org or call 303-688-4600.
