Bulldozers are grading dirt and clearing debris on the land at the corner of Castle Pines Parkway and Monarch Boulevard in preparation for the development that will take place soon. Village Homes, the developer of the land, is preparing the northern half of the property to begin building homes adjacent to StoneCroft.

Construction on the new homes could begin as early as the end of June. Village is working with community representatives as final plans are made and that process makes it difficult to come up with a firm date for the first groundbreaking, according to Margaret Barden, Public Processing Manager for Village Homes.

“What we’ve seen so far are plans for property lines and lot sizes,” said Bill Ader, head of the Castle Pines North (CPN) Design Review Committee (DRC). “The plans we’ve seen are preliminary, but they follow the Caste Pines North color palate and general style of what’s already here.”

Construction on the commercial portion of the property, which borders Castle Pines Parkway on the south, is likely to begin in late summer or early fall. At this time, the only known tenant is the Douglas County Library System. Funding for the new branch will be voted on this fall.

“We are currently working with a financial company to analyze the cost and timelines of projects,” said James LaRue, director of Douglas County Libraries. “We have
determined that we cannot afford expansions of service without new resources. Now we’re trying to whittle down the costs to something that’s affordable and sustainable.”

The library is interested in finding citizens of CPN who would be willing to advocate for the library. Residents who are willing to assist the library in its efforts to expand services should contact Katie Klossner at kklossner@dclibraries.org.

No leases for the property have yet been signed. Real estate agent Bill Jenkins has had several inquiries. Possible tenants include a hair salon, nail salon, bank, dry cleaner and a child care center.
