Master Association Hosts Suicide Awareness and Prevention Forum

by Terri Wiebold

On the evening of April 18, residents in the Castle Pines North (CPN) community gathered at the community center to share in an open discussion about suicide and how to prevent this tragedy, as well as to learn about the grieving process when a loved one is lost.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Victim Assistance Coordinator Patty Moschner and Douglas County School District counselor Leslie Clemensen opened the discussion with the simple truth that grieving is a very personal pain and journey for every individual. There is no set time or method for grieving, and understanding that it is different for each individual – even among members within the same family – is the first step in healing.

Although suicide is not often discussed in an open forum such as this, it is a growing epidemic in our nation. Moschner and Clemensen discussed strategies to cope with grief after the loss of a loved one and provided resources for individuals dealing with loss through suicide, as well as specific information for teens facing loss.

Those in attendance left with the knowledge that there is hope and there are resources available (books, contacts, support groups and websites) to help prevent this tragedy. To receive a list of these resources, e-mail or call Moschner at 303-660-7535, ext. 3.

The CPN Master Association serves as the advocate for the CPN community and is committed to hosting these public forums to educate and assist residents in the community with issues of interest or concern. To submit ideas or suggestions for future forums, please e-mail .
