Dave Fraser, News2’s Chief Meteorologist and parent of a Timber Trail student, runs the live auction at the school’s fundraiser, “La Noche de la Fiesta.” Fraser is flanked by TTE’s outgoing principal, Lisa Phillips (right) and new principal, Michelle Radke (left.) The event raised money for science and reading programs as well as assemblies and technology at the school.
Welcome Back!

Year-round school means back to school time is here already for many students at TTE. The 2007-08 school year is scheduled to begin July 9 for tracks A,
C and D. Kids on B track will begin July 31.

A new school year means not only new classrooms and new teachers, but this year TTE is also welcoming a new principal, Michelle Radke. Radke has been assistant principal at TTE for a year and a half. Prior to her work as an administrator, she taught third grade.

“As principal, I hope to continue the excellent work that is going on. We have a top-notch staff, our parents are very supportive, and of course our students are the best!” said Radke.

Fond Farewells

The new year brings a new beginning for principal Lisa Phillips, who will be leaving TTE this year to pursue a new assignment in the school district as a director of schools for the Highlands Ranch High School feeder area.

“Opening TTE was one of my greatest joys,” said Phillips. “My favorite part of my day was to greet the students as they arrived at school each day. I will truly miss that.”

Phillips was the first principal of TTE, and has seen enrollment grow from 330 to 620, which required the school to change to a four-track system.

“Opening a school, picking everything from the bricks to the furniture, hiring the staff, and building a positive culture has been a dream of mine since I became a principal,” said Phillips.

Also bidding students farewell is P.E. teacher Steve Obrecht. After 28 years of teaching, Obrecht is looking forward to some time to spend with his grandchildren and working on the family ranch. He will also do some substitute teaching.

“I have enjoyed working with some of the best teachers in Douglas County. The staff at Timber Trail is professional and truly cares about the kids that we teach,” said Obrecht.

School Supplies

A new year means new paper, pencils and other materials. Supply lists for each grade can be found on the school’s website (see address listed above.)

Fiesta Fundraising

The Timber Trail Education Alliance (TTEA) hosted its second annual “La Noche de la Fiesta” at the Park Meadows Marriott in May. The evening, which featured a Mexican buffet, live music, and both a silent auction and a live auction, raised $30,000. The money raised will augment funding for the school’s science program, reading recovery program, assemblies and new technology at the school.

“On behalf of the children and staff at Timber Trail, I offer my heartfelt thanks for all of your support throughout the year and to those of you who have worked so hard to create this wonderful evening,” said Phillips.
