Rock Canyon Tops 5280 Magazine’s Best High School List

by Elean Gersack

In the August issue of 5280 magazine, Rock Canyon High School (RCHS) received accolades as the overall number two high school in the Denver area.

The article titled, “Denver’s Best High Schools” evaluated private and public high schools by student-teacher ratio, lowest number of disciplinary issues, ACT and SAT scores, teachers with advanced degrees, number of AP courses, and dropout rates.

Overall, only one high school ranked higher than RCHS – Peak to Peak Charter School in Layfayette. Rounding out the top five, behind number two RCHS, were Colorado Academy, Kent Denver, and Cherry Creek High School.

RCHS received top scores for student-teacher ratio (17:1), lowest number of disciplinary issues per student (.047), percentage of teachers with advanced degrees (88 percent), number of AP courses (17) and lowest dropout rate (.2 percent).

“Rock Canyon is honored to be selected by 5280 as one of Denver’s Best Schools. The success is a tribute to the vision of Rock Canyon’s first principal, Dan McMinimee and the astounding professionalism and dedication of the staff, students and community. RCHS is a collaborative learning community where students are empowered and encouraged to explore their academic and extra-curricular options to excel in education, “ said Kimberely Rauh, RCHS principal.
