Douglas County Teen Curfew Still in Effect
|
||||||||||
In July, the Douglas County Board of County Commissioners passed a revised curfew ordinance in Douglas County, which directly impacts Castle Pines North (CPN) teens. “I think the curfew is fine; it seems like anybody who is out later than that is probably doing something they shouldn’t,” said Blakelee Guest, a 14-year-old freshman at Rock Canyon High School. “It won’t change what I already do because my curfew is 11 p.m.,” he continued. According to the ordinance, it is unlawful for persons younger than eighteen years of age to loiter on any public or private property without the consent or permission of the owner between certain hours. The curfew specifies the hours of 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., Sunday through Thursday, and between the hours of midnight and 5 a.m. on Friday and Saturday unless accompanied by a parent, guardian or other adult person older than twenty-one years of age. The ordinance also makes it a Class II petty offense - punishable by fine of up to $1000 - for any parent, guardian or other person having legal custody of any minor who has not reached his or her eighteenth birthday to knowingly permit any such minor to be on any public or private property unless accompanied by a parent, guardian or other adult person older than twenty-one years of age.
