Dear Connection,

The Village will not be voting on incorporation in the November election. When will they vote, and why should Castle Pines North even consider incorporating at all unless the Village is really serious about it?

As part of the Revenue Sharing and Settlement Agreement signed between Castle Pines North and the Village in June, the Village agreed to re-file their petition to incorporate, excluding the CPN area businesses from their boundary map. Since that time, the Village has yet to re-file their petition with the court. It has been speculated that the Village will vote on their peition to incorporate in early 2008. Are they serious about incorporation? Absolutely. Will Village residents vote for incorporation? We don’t know.

We do know that the efforts of our neighbors prompted CPN into action; it forced CPN to seriously look at whether becoming a city is the best road to take for our future. With growth and development around us, it is simply a matter of time before the flagpoling of our local CPN businesses becomes a reality. It is important to remember that any number of neighboring municipalities could reach into our commuity and include our local businesses in their boundaries. Without incorporation of CPN, the revenue from the local businesses would go to support the future of another city. CPN would remain an island of homes with little voice in our own future. Someone will benefit from our local businesses - - shouldn’t it be us?

Dear Editor:

I am a registered voter, but I did not vote in the 2006 General Election. Will I receive a mail ballot in the mail for the 2007 election?

No. If you did not vote in the last election, and you did not sign and return a signature card to the Douglas County Clerk and Recorder’s office last spring, then you are considered “inactive” and will not receive a ballot. (In April, cards were mailed to all registered voters who did not cast a ballot in November, 2006.)

In order to change your status to “active,” call the elections office at 303-660-7444. You must be changed to “active” status by October 9, 2007 in order to participate in this year’s election.
