Local Schools Solicit Support for Fun Run
by Lisa Crockett

Schools in Castle Pines North (CPN) and surrounding areas will use the proceeds from the fourth annual “Rock Slide” race to fund school programs and activities. The race will take place on Saturday, November 10, with an “Expo” the evening before.

Runners are encouraged to stop by the Expo between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. to pick up race packets and enjoy food from Qdoba and Coldstone Creamery.

“I’m excited that Premier Martial Arts will be doing both adult and student demonstrations at the expo as well as leading warm-up exercises on the day of the race,” said race organizer Jenny Brett.

In keeping with what is now tradition, the race will take place at Rock Canyon High School and will include both a 5K and a one-mile fun run. Following the race, runners can feast on a pancake breakfast provided by the Castle Pines Kiwanis Club. Proceeds from the breakfast support the Kiwanis’ Second Wind Fund, a teen–suicide prevention effort.

“We don’t want to change too much, we want to build on the success of years past,” said Brett. To that end, the 5K route will be tweaked a bit. The mile run, as in years past, will remain on school property.

CPN’s elementary schools will be helping runners condition for the race by offering training throughout the month of October.

The 5K begins promptly at 9 a.m. and runners are encouraged to arrive early in order to find parking and to warm up. Runners of all ages are welcome and age-group winners will be recognized; all participants will receive a ribbon.

Race fees are $25 for adults and $15 for kids, with a registration deadline of November 6. Funds raised go to American Academy Charter School, Buffalo Ridge Elementary School, DCS Montessori Charter School, Redstone Elementary School, Timber Trail Elementary School, Wildcat Mountain Elementary School, Rocky Heights Middle School and Rock Canyon High School.
