DANIELS PARK OPEN HOUSE TO REVEAL PRELIMINARY MASTER PLAN

August 22 Event Hosted By Douglas County and Denver Parks and Recreation

Castle Rock, CO……A jewel in the crown of the Denver Mountain Parks System in Douglas County will receive some well-deserved tender loving care through a proposed Master Plan for the historical park that culminates three years of collaborative efforts between two local governments and surrounding neighbors who share a mutual desire for Park improvements.

A public open house will be held on Wednesday, August 22, 7:00 p.m., at the Timber Trail Elementary School, 690 West Castle Pines Parkway in Castle Rock, so that the public may review the preliminary Master Plan for Daniels Park.

Daniels Park is one of largest parks in Denver Mountain Park system.  The 1,000-acre historic ranch in Douglas County is known for its bison herd, dramatic view of the mountains, historic ranch buildings, distinctive stone shelter, and Tallbull Memorial Grounds.

Denver Parks and Recreation and Douglas County have been working the past few years to create the preliminary master plan for the park, designed to improve park access, traffic flow, and amenities. The intersection on Daniels Park Road at the southern entrance to the park, for example, long has been considered dangerous with its steep grade and lack of visibility.  The park has attracted regional users for decades who now are joined on a regular basis by the neighbors living adjacent to the park.  The Master Plan and Phase I road improvements will be funded by Douglas County.

Also as part of the August 22^nd open house, Denver Mountain Parks Foundation and Denver Parks and Recreation will be soliciting feedback from Douglas County residents regarding their use of and suggestions for improvements to other Denver Mountain Parks such as Red Rocks, Winter Park Ski Resort, Buffalo Bills Grave and the Museum on Lookout Mountain as well as other parks in Denver’s 14,000 acre mountain park system. This information will be used for a Mountain Parks Master Plan update.
