North Lynx HOA Goes Green
Jennifer Havercroft, Vice-President North Lynx Homeowners Association
by Lisa Crockett

When residents of the North Lynx Homeowners Association (HOA), comprised of the Serena and Tapadero subdivisions, pay their trash collection fee they also pay for recycling. Many residents, however, were not taking advantage of that service.

“As I would be out walking the neighborhood on trash pickup day, I noticed that a lot of people weren’t recycling,” said Jennifer Havercroft, vice president of the HOA.

Havercroft and HOA president Anna Mallinson decided to look for ways to help the community take advantage of this readily-accessible program. The HOA partnered with Eagle Waste, who provides trash service for the community, to purchase recycling bins at a reduced rate. The HOA then offered residents the chance to purchase the bins at cost and then threw in an extra bin for free with every purchase.

“This was an easy thing for us to do, it didn’t cost the HOA a lot of money, it helps the environment, and it helps our residents take advantage of something they are already paying for,” said Havercroft. “So often as HOAs we simply react to problems and complaints. This was something positive and proactive that was really pretty easy to do.”

So far Mallinson and Havercroft have sold about half the bins in the inventory, which they will hand deliver to any interested residents in North Lynx.

Recycling in Castle Pines North varies by neighborhood. Residents interested in participating in a recycling program can contact individual HOA trash service providers for details.

If recycling is not available in a particular neighborhood, aluminum cans can be recycled at the King Soopers guest services counter. Recycling is also available at the South Metro fire station #36 on Castle Pines Parkway. The white Waste Management container near the fire station entrance is available for paper, cardboard, aluminum, food- and beverage-grade glass, steel and tin recycling as well as empty aerosol cans.
