Water has been the topic of much discussion in the Castle Pines North (CPN) community in recent months. One CPN resident recently received state-wide recognition for her tireless efforts in the arena of water rights.

The Colorado Association of Realtors (CAR) presented HOA1 resident, Eva Mitchell, with the William “Bill” Reed Good Award at its annual convention at the Broadmoor on October 14, 2007. The award honors the memory of a man who fought to keep water in the State of Colorado and manage it properly, fighting for water rights at the local and state level.

Keeping with that tradition, Mitchell has worked on the state legislative committee for the CAR since 1980, reviewing all legislation pertaining to land use and private property water rights. Mitchell has made countless recommendations regarding water rights issues and has chaired the sub-committee on water for several years. She has also been involved with the Colorado Foundation for Water Education.

“It all started in the late seventies when I was working with real estate development and selling land,” said Mitchell. “I knew Colorado had excellent water law and I studied it. The more I learned, the more I realized how complex an issue it was and that I needed to always have an attorney in water negotiations.”

After more than two decades of service, Mitchell recently resigned from the legislative committee stating, “I think I am finally ready to retire.”

Mitchell has lived in CPN since 1996. She is an HOA1 board member and serves on the Preservation Steering Committee that helped lead the incorporation effort. Congratulations, Eva!
