I know that Castle Pines North (CPN) will levy a sales tax now that it is a city. When does the new sales tax take effect? A sales tax of 2.75 percent was approved by CPN voters in the November election. This tax applies to non-food purchases. A sales tax will help fund the new city, but several things need to happen before CPN revenue can be collected. First, CPN has to officially become a city, which will happen when the new city council is sworn in after the February election. Next, a sales tax ordinance has to be passed and statutory notice and waiting periods have to be observed. It is likely that the sales tax will go into effect sometime in early July, but that is ONLY an estimate. Information regarding the sales tax will be shared with residents via The Connection and community e-mail once the new city council addresses the issue.
Several CPN residents have reported sightings of a very large, well fed bobcat in the Forest Park area. Though bobcats are usually not aggressive, residents should always exercise caution when interacting with wildlife. Given the size of this cat, residents should take special care to supervise small children and pets outdoors.
Recently, a Glen Oaks resident found evidence of a mountain lion on his property (droppings, footprints) and it is believed that the cat may be using backyard balconies as a place to perch. Again, use extreme caution if you believe such an animal may be close by. Please report all sightings to the CPN Master Association’s Safety Committee at
