City to Place Ban on Illegal Fireworks

Temperatures are heating up and Castle Pines North (CPN) is several inches behind in rainfall for the year.  Residents should be aware of the hazards of fireworks and take precautions when using them.  In fact, certain fireworks are illegal for use in the State of Colorado.

The City Council has adopted the policy that prohibits illegal fireworks in CPN.  The City Council will officially vote on an illegal fireworks resolution at their next meeting scheduled for July 2 at 7 p.m. at the CPN Community Center, 7404 Yorkshire Drive.

What fireworks are permissible?

According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO), legal fireworks include:  cylindrical or cone fountains, wheel and ground spinners, illuminating torches, dipped sticks, colored fire, sparklers, snakes and glow worms.

ILLEGAL fireworks are those that leave the ground and include (but not limited to): cherry bombs, roman candles, firecrackers, bottle rockets, shells and rockets, M-80s, M-100s and helicopters.

The use of illegal fireworks is considered a class 3 misdemeanor and can be punished by a fine of up to $750 and/or imprisonment.

Help protect the homes and open spaces of CPN from the risk of fire danger.  Please report the use of illegal fireworks in CPN to the DCSO at 303-660-7500.  911 should only be dialed in the event of an emergency and not to report firework complaints.
