Evening with the Arts Supports Music at Buffalo Ridge

by Elean Gersack

Evening with the Arts, a first-time Buffalo Ridge Elementary School (BRE) spring concert, took place on Sunday, April 27, at Douglas County High School. More than 200 students and families enjoyed the concert, which featured BRE parents, students, alumni and other music professionals.

The Buffalo Ridge Educational Alliance (BREA) organized the event to highlight the importance of the arts and to provide an avenue to gain financial support for Cathy Deneault’s music classroom. Nearly $4,000 was raised to help with Deneault’s music wish list which includes soprano, alto, and bass xylophones, musical song pieces, back and side riser rail set, and a digital camera with pull-down screen for better quality classroom instruction.

“I have the gift of sharing music with the kids everyday,” said Deneault. With district-wide budget cuts, these items would not be replaceable without parent support. “These gifts will be with BRE forever,” said Deneault.

The evening consisted of classical performances by Greg Adams, BRE parent and international concert pianist; Kathryn Dupuy Cooper, BRE parent and former Colorado Symphony oboist; James Harvey, Colorado Ballet bassoonist; Fran Piazza, Colorado Symphony flutist; Peter Tuff, internationally acclaimed baritone; Oliver A., BRE third-grade pianist; Bryce E., BRE alumni pianist; and the BRE student orchestra led by Kim Watkins, Conductor.

Save the Dates

The summer is just underway, but mark the calendar now for next school year’s getting started events:

Monday, August 11: Meet and Greet
Tuesday, August 12: Classes Begin
Thursday, August 28 Back to School Night and Family Picnic

Buffalo Ridge Educational Alliance (BREA)

Consider getting involved this fall! Take time to meet the BREA on Monday, August 11, during the meet and greet. The BREA, similar to a PTO, is always looking for friendly parents to help continue making Buffalo Ridge an amazing school for our children.
