The Castle Pines North Metro District (CPNMD) started the spring off with a splash, introducing a Water Awareness and Responsibility Program (WARP) to the Castle Pines North (CPN) community – its schools, residents, and leaders.

The CPNMD partnered with Buffalo Ridge Elementary, DCS Montessori, and American Academy to promote elementary school assemblies about where water comes from, the need to conserve, and how each student can have an impact on water conservation.

In return for participation in the program, each student received a WARP t-shirt and entry into special prize drawings, including a chance to “Swim with the Fish” at the Denver Aquarium and win passes to Water World. The CPNMD also provided take-home toilet test kits for each student to detect leaky toilets, the biggest culprit of water waste in a home.

Rocky Heights Middle School and Rock Canyon High School students also participated in the program by solving several water-related math questions and competing in an essay contest. Prizes included WARP t-shirts, tickets to Water World, concert tickets, and a $500 educational grant to the school of the recipient’s choice.

To educate residents and encourage homeowner participation in the program, the CPNMD sent WARP questionnaires in its May (and upcoming June) billings. Residents who turn the questionnaire into the CPNMD will have a chance to win a water adventure weekend in the Colorado Mountains for the entire family.

The CPNMD also sponsored a three-part educational series for all homeowner association Board members, managers, and landscape companies to help each understand what impact water conservation can have on CPN.
