Welcome Back Students will head back to school at American Academy on Monday, August 18. A Welcome Back Ice Cream Social will be held on Friday, August 15 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Come by and enjoy ice cream, meet your teacher, visit with friends, and get ready for the new school year. Summer Reading Summer is flying right by, so make sure to remember to read the required summer reading books before school begins. A list of required summer reading by grade can be found at www.americanacademyk8.org. Uniform Resale Continues If you missed the Dennis uniform sale this summer, make sure to shop at the American Academy “Because Kids Grow” uniform sale, sponsored by the PTO. Gently used uniforms can be tagged and dropped off at the school on Wednesday, August 6, for resale. Saxon Math Testing New students and eligible returning students need to sharpen their pencils for math placement testing on August 11. To find out if your student is eligible for testing go to www.americanacademyk8.org or contact Diane Veazie. The first graduating class at American Academy (pictured right) celebrated their graduation from the school on May 23. The Core Knowledge, K-8, math, science, and technology public charter school opened in 2005, when these students were in the sixth grade. These outstanding eighth graders were instrumental in helping the school earn the John Irwin School of Excellence award for the past two years with their commitment to academics. American Academy, set to build on the Lagae Ranch in CPN this fall, will be the first middle school in the new city. Congratulations to all of the graduates! |
