Possible relocation of Colorado Christian University campus concerns city officials download this document 45k pdf CASTLE PINES NORTH, Colo., Dec. 28, 2009 The possible relocation of Colorado Christian University to Highlands Ranch, near the Castle Pines North city limits, has raised concerns among city officials, who have initiated discussions with the university about more suitable sites in the area. CCU is a private institution of 3,400 undergraduate and graduate students currently located in Lakewood. University officials have been in talks with the Highlands Ranch Community Association about a possible site to relocate its campus. The proposed site is located north of Castle Pines North, west of Monarch and approximately one mile south of Rocky Heights Middle School. The relocation would be permissible under current zoning restrictions approved in 2000 by Douglas County. Upon learning of CCU’s possible move, Castle Pines North Mayor Maureen Shul immediately contacted university representatives, asking them to consider possible alternative sites. "Realizing the adverse impact in terms of traffic and noise that a college campus located just north of our city in what is now open space would have on our city, I was encouraged by their openness to other potential sites within our area," says Shul. The mayor noted that university officials have indicated that a final decision is not imminent. She pointed out that the recent annexation of The Canyons into Castle Pines North provides a number of alternatives. "While the decision on where CCU is relocated ultimately rests with them,” Shul says, “I want to assure the citizens of Castle Pines North that efforts have been ongoing and will continue, concerning an alternate site in the Castle Pines North area that may better protect and preserve our community while also providing CCU a site that enhances their visibility and growth."
