    SEPTEMBER 2001:

Are we ready for a CPN Recreation Center?

(Back to the latest survey results)

And MORE of what you've had to say about it...
    from Oct. 1 through Oct 10, 2001:

10-10 "I want to cast my 'vote' for a rec center, it is long overdue."

A request, please. One vote per household (or two, I can see it if a husband and a wife disagree). To the person who voted "NO" 80 times, please... and not in the spirit of this thing.

10-10 "If someone were able to vote 80 times 'no', then whose to say that others could have voted 80 times 'yes' or more. This informal poll does not even check to see if the respondent is actually a resident of CPN. Therefore, I think it is safe to assume that the results of this 'survey' are not accurate and should only be used to express opinions and NOT be used to validate the wishes of the few members of the Parks Authority."

Okay, I'll try again. These have always been informal surveys for communal value. This is not voting in a public election, this is not a legal polling arena, this is an opinion poll. Everyone has a right to an opinion - this is a way to get to know yours and it does matter or we wouldn't be asking what you think. And yes, we have always operated on the assumption that people would behave fairly and act accordingly. We thank the people who have answered in good faith.

CPNHOA has a stated privacy policy to protect the rights of you as an individual to remain anonymous. This 'survey' was intended to provide a forum for commentary and opinion on the topic of a rec center. All comments are posted unedited.

If you have a broader agenda, please approach your HOA delegate and/or attend the Annual Master Association meeting and express yourself in person, and do so in your own name, pro or con the topic. In the meantime, can we just plod on without getting too goofy.

10-9 "What a great idea for sharing the cost of the rec center!!! Part of the funding to come from each resident, as we all share in the increase in property values, and part to come from those who choose to participate. Thanks to all those VOLUNTEERS who use their time to make Castle Pines North a community to be proud of. I may not ever use the rec center, but this rec center is not about any one individual and whether they would or would not use it!! We need to think of others and not just about ourselves. It is about what is good for the community. Recreation facilities DO make it easier to sell a home, particularly in this neighborhood, where the people who live here are physically active and many have children who need a place to go that is close by."

"QUIT YOUR WHINING!!! To all the people that are whining about the rec center, you need to remember one thing - you live in a democratic society where majority wins. It is apparent that when things that don't go your way, you need to start making claims that are completely unfounded. Let's start with claims of crime and gang activity - please cite your specific source. As for people that don't want an increase in dues, based on the formula spelled out in the initial founding documents of CPN, you should be paying that much already - still cheaper to live here in a nicer area than it is to live in the Ranch. Do you really think that a state-of-the-art rec facility would lower property values? Cite specific sources where this has happened.

We have NOTHING in Castle Pines North that would be considered a community center - a place where neighbors can come meet and play. So instead of hiding behind an anonymous internet posting, I challenge you to bring your complaints (and specific, verifiable data) to the annual meeting on November 8, 2001, and voice them there. I promise you that your opinions will be heard, and likely challenged by other residents. To those of you supporting the rec center - be sure to attend the meeting to make sure that your voice is heard as well."

10-6 "ABSOLUTELY YES - LET'S BUILD A RECREATION CENTER! My family needs a close-to-home place to go swimming at the end of the work and school day, and we need a place for activities for kids. Of course we would expect to pay for those activities. We pay for activities today. We just want to be able to stop driving to remote locations to do so. We would love to be able to spend more time "at home" in our community. We love living in CPN, and we like being in a community that is surrounded by so much open space and thus "remote" from other parts of the county. It is our isolation that makes it all the more important that we have our own rec center. It is our isolation, along with many other qualities of CPN, that distinguishes us from Highlands Ranch -- we don't need to say, as some have commented, that we're different because we don't have a Rec Center. We'd personally love have a Rec Center, and think it would be an asset to our whole community. ! Let's get going!"

10-3 "I do not want to spend and extra $100.00 plus in my association dues for something I am not in favor of and will never use. The people who want to have the center should be the ones to pay for it. In other words let it be a pay as you use it type system. Do not force this on people who do not want it and/or will never use it. If I wanted to live in a neighborhood that had a recreation center as part of its association dues I would have moved to Highlands Ranch."

10-1 "Daycare facilities would be great!"

10-1 "The original mailed survey DID NOT ask whether or nor residents opposed the Rec Center idea or not. It only asked what we were willing to pay for a Rec Center. I did not move to Castle Pines North to live in Highlands Ranch. Do not mirror the mistakes they made. A Rec Center will only decrease the property value of our homes by bringing in more unwanted strip malls, traffic nightmares and increased vandalism. CPN cannot handle the vandalism that a small pool brings, how can we handle a large Rec Center? I sincerely hope that the desire of a Rec Center is brought to a vote of CPN residents. I do not want my dues increased one penny for the construction and maintenance of a Rec Center."

10-1 "Has anyone visited the 2 Rec Centers in Highlands Ranch? They are a pit! The equipment is horrible and the resident fees continues to rise to replace outdated equipment. Approximately 5-10% of the residents even use the facilities, but everyone pays for it. The center location Broadway is a HIGH CRIME area which is a known location for GANG ACTIVITY. The gym attracts mostly teenagers that are unsupervised. Parents cannot bring their pre-teen children to the Center for fear of the negative influences surrounding the atmosphere. The pool that we have now is seldom used as are the tennis and basketball courts. Who is going to use indoor facilities? You have to pay extra for swimming lessons, basketball leagues and tennis lessons. What will be getting for our severely increased dues? Indoor racquetball is an outdated 70's activity that no one plays anymore. The minute you install exercise equipment it is already outdated. DO NOT BUILD A REC CENTER!"

10-1 "Think this would be a nice addition to the community. I don't know the details of how it would be paid for but I hope it would be a pay membership with maybe some subsidizing from the community."

10-1 "I really believe that if you build it, they will come...as long as it is kept up!"
