Provisional Ballots May Change Race’s Outcome

Tuesday’s primary gave Steve Boand of Castle Rock a mere 57-vote lead over Highland Ranch’s Jeff Wasden in the Republican race for County Commissioner, but things could change.

Douglas County still needs to count “provisional ballots,” which are ballots cast by voters who for some reason weren’t on the master registry, or who didn’t have identification with them.

The County has 12 days to tally the ballots, but it hopes that the counting will be concluded this week.

If, after the provisional ballots are verified and counted, the margin is less than 30 votes, a recount is mandatory.  A candidate could request a non-mandatory recount at his own expense.

The tight race is a reminder of the importance of every citizen getting out to vote.  Stay tuned!
