David A. Weaver Appointed as Sheriff of Douglas County

There is a new sheriff in town.  On Friday, September 1 the Douglas County Board of Commissioners unanimously appointed David A. Weaver as Sheriff of Douglas County.  Weaver is finishing off the term of Sheriff that was left vacant when Sheriff Micheal Acree resigned and accepted the position as Deputy Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Public Safety.

With his acceptance of the position Sheriff Weaver stated, “I am honored to have been given this opportunity to be the Sheriff of Douglas County.  I am ready to accept the challenges and responsibilities of the position of Sheriff and will continue to work in partnership with the citizen’s of Douglas County for a safer and stronger community.”

Sheriff Weaver has been with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office since September 1981.  During his career with Douglas County, he has consistently been promoted, from a Corporal in the patrol division, to a Sergeant in the detention’s facility and then a Lieutenant in the internal affairs unit.  At the time of his appointment to Sheriff, Weaver was overseeing the daily operations of the Sheriff’s Office as Undersheriff.

Sheriff Weaver is also known for implementing the Alive at 25 Program.  The program targets teenage drivers and is a curriculum based class that discusses driving, peer pressures that surround driving and the consequences of poor decisions.

On August 18, Sheriff Weaver attended the Castle Pines North Master Association Monthly Meeting and addressed many issues concerning the community.  Sheriff Weaver stays in contact with the residents, discussing questions or concerns by regularly attending homeowner association and town meetings.  Sheriff Weaver believes that building strong relationships with the community allows the Sheriff’s Office to become more effective in building a safer and stronger community.

In November of 2006 elections for the Sheriff’s Office will be held.  Sheriff Weaver will fill the office through December 31, 2006
