8-24 More parks and a Rec Center too?

Last year, CPN's Parks Authority conducted a survey of CPN residents' wishes for future parks and recreation amenities in the community. The top priority for new facilities was a recreation center.

Now, preliminary research shows that we may be closer to achieving this dream than anyone had thought possible. Over the next few months, a lot of work will be done to determine whether this is the time to pursue the goal of building a CPN Rec Center. Look for more information to be available soon.

Overview of development and open space map - The CPN Master Association has a map showing this whole area (too big for this web site) but is available to anyone wishing to review it at all Master Association meetings (third Thursday of each month at 7:00 pm at the CPN Community Center).

6-21 Grand Opening of Coyote Ridge Park

Join the festivities for a "Western Welcome for Coyote Ridge Park" on August 25th from 4:00pm to 7:00pm, sponsored by the CPNHOA. This is a ticketed event (caterers need a count) so please check out event details. Hope to see you there.

4-14 Coyote Ridge Park

The northeast corner of Monarch Blvd. and Hidden Pointe Blvd is the first area for an active park. (Map of the proposed area). It has been named "Coyote Ridge Park" by Hidden Pointe resident Kim Nelson. The park plans to be opened by summer of 01.

The grading for the two play fields, the parking areas and the playground pad has begun with the cooperation of homebuilder D.R. Horton, which has accelerated its monetary contribution and provided volunteer help from the company's employees. Grading, irrigation and sod are to be completed by May.

The area includes a future school site and has room for three soccer/baseball fields together with a playground, picnic facilities, restrooms, and trails.

Douglas County will be working on the design and construction of its major trail link from our nothern border through the Highlands Ranch Open Space to connect the parks/trailways to Highlands Ranch.

This system will eventually tie our park into trails and parks from Chatfield to Parker.

  Parks Authority

The Castle Pines Parks Authority is a governmental alliance between the Castle Pines North Metropolitan District and Douglas County. Its role will bring together all of the various entities needed to plan, fund and build active parks in our area.

The northeast corner of Monarch Blvd. and Hidden Pointe Blvd is the first area for an active park.

The area includes a future school site and has room for three soccer/baseball fields together with a playground, picnic facilities, restrooms, and trails.

  Highlands Ranch Open Space

The "public hearing" signs seen along the northern section of Daniels Park Road are for the review of plans for the Open Space south of Highlands Ranch. There will never be any housing or commercial development in this area, but the Plan would allow public and recreational uses in the area immediately north of us (like parks, interpretive wildlife centers, museums, schools, libraries, fire stations, and other public buildings; churches; utility lines and facilities like a water treatment plant).

In the area immediately south of Highlands Rance (south of McArthur Ranch Road, between Quebec and Daniels Park Road), the County is planning a major regional park and the School District plans a Middle/High School complex.

Highlands Ranch is currently making some revisions to their plan to accomodate the concerns of the American Indians who want to discourage "public" activities near the Tall Bull Memorial (held sacred by the American Indians). The Tall Bull Memorial itself is located in Daniels Park which is a City and County of Denver Mountain Park.

Are there any soccer fields coming into the area?

The County is planning a major regional park (with soccer fields) just south of Highlands Ranch (at the proposed school complex site in the vicinity of Quebec and McArthur Ranch Road). Two more major regional sites are included in the Canyons development, one of these would be an active park and would be located east of I-25; accessed via Castle Pines Parkway.

What are the plans for Cherokee Ranch?

Cherokee Ranch may someday have a center that is open to the public, but the expectation is that the balance of the Ranch will limit public access in order to preserve wildlife habitats. The owner of this ranch, the late Tweet Kimball, dedicated the development rights for this land so that it would always remain undeveloped. The land remains privately held.

  Trail System Expansion

The County is planning expansion of the Regional Trail system. One new trail would parallel Daniels Park Road and connect to another new trail system that would go through the Highlands Ranch Open Space north of Daniels Park and connect to Chatfield Reservoir and the Cherry Creek Trail Systems.
