    Burglaries are Back (5-19)

Car and property thefts have returned to Castle Pines North, and residents are reminded once again to lock up their property at all times.

The recent rash of burglaries included four stolen cars. In addition, high-end items such as purses and laptop computers were taken from inside cars and garages.

Castle Pines North is considered a "target-rich" community, where residents are trusting and relatively careless about leaving items unlocked and available.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office offers a number of suggestions to help prevent crime:

  • Lock it up. Motor vehicle thefts often occur when the keys were in the ignition, and the car is unlocked.
  • Close your garage doors
  • Lock all the doors in your home at night—especially the one between the garage and the home. "It’s the most valuable minute you can spend," according to Sheriff’s Deputy Harris.
  • Change the locks of your home if it’s new or if one of your keys turns up missing.
  • Always use deadbolt locks.
  • When you bring your car into the shop, remove the garage door opener. It’s easy for someone to note the code inside and program another opener to unlock your garage doors.

Other crime-fighting tips:

  • Add lighting to your home. Sensor lights, especially in the backs and sides of properties, will discourage crooks. Caught in a beam of light, the crook will most likely step back and choose another home that is dark.
  • Work with your neighbors to put sensor lights in between your properties.
  • Learn who lives around you.
  • Start a Neighborhood Watch. It only requires two meetings a year, which can be block parties.
  • Note the license plate number of suspicious vehicles in your area.
  • Work with the Sheriff’s office. With the growth of our area, law enforcement can’t be everywhere at once. If you’re going away, you can call the HouseWatch program, and officers will come out and check your property at least once per shift. You also can call the Sheriff’s office for a Ride-Along. See what the Sheriff’s Department sees on a weekend night!

Despite the recent burglaries, we are still one of the safest places in the entire state, according to the Sheriff’s Office. Let’s work together to keep it that way!

What's going on with all the earth-moving on the Parkway? (5-1)

Judy Dahl, Metro District Manager, explains that a turning lane is being constructed on the south side of CP Parkway, to allow cars to enter into the new elementary school, Timber Trail.

You may also have noticed other utility trucks in the area. They are working on locating and moving some cable lines.

      Tennis Anyone (ongoing; 4-9)
CPN's HOA#1 and HOA#2 neighborhoods (the "Writer" areas south of Castle Pines Parkway) have tennis courts that are owned by the HOA. This year, there will be expanded tennis programs, and residents of other CPN neighborhoods will have options to participate (for an additional fee).

HOA #1 tennis courts are located next to the HOA#1 clubhouse, north of Buffalo Ridge Elementary. This year, HOA#1 will offer professional tennis instruction, available to HOA#1 residents on a first priority basis and also to non-HOA#1 residents upon payment of a facilities participation fee of $75 per family. HOA #1 has chosen Game-Set-Match, Inc. as the tennis program source. Contact them at 303-790-1991, or visit their website at www.gamesetmatchinc.com.

HOA #2's tennis courts are located next to the HOA#2 clubhouse on Oxford Drive, in the Kings Crossing neighborhood. All residents of HOA#2 have rights to use these courts as part of their HOA membership. Residents of other CPN neighborhoods who are interested in purchasing a membership may contact Ron Valiga, Hallmark Management, at 303-683-6444.

If you are interested in helping to organize and/or participate in league play, contact Maureen Shul at (720) 733-0491.
