The Buddy Center is turning 1 on April 11, 2003.

To celebrate, an open house is planned from noon to 7:00pm.

Since the Buddy Center opened on April 11, 2002, it has helped thousands of pets and people in Douglas County and beyond.

Milestones:

Nearly 1900 dogs, cats and other small pets were placed in new homes.

More than 780 lost pets were reunited with their owners.

Hundreds of people attended dog obediance classes at the Buddy Center

Nearly 1,000 children in Douglas County learned about kindess and compassion toward all living things through the league's humane education program.

A 14,000-square-foot facility accommodates a capacity of 5,000 animals a year. Three acres of land, was generously donated by the county for the $3.1million facility which opened in April of 2002.

  The Buddy Center is located at 4556 Castleton Court in Castle Rock. Call 303-696-4941, Ext. 362. (Near Highway I-25, just north of Castle Rock.)  
         
  When does this facility offer residents of Douglas County?   Dumb Friends League:  
 
  • Lost and found services available seven days a week.
  • Overnight kennels accessible for lost pets brought to the facility after normal business hours.
  • Owners will know to contact the shelter to find out if their animal is waiting there for them
  • A "visit and play pavilion" with four get-acquainted rooms and indoor pet playground where prospective adopters can spend time getting to know their new friends.
  • Obedience training classes to dog owners. Access to the League's behavior helpline for cats and dogs.
  • A visible presence to encourage people to report instances of abuse and neglect.
  • Education/resource center with two fully-equipped classrooms. Continuation of the League's humane education department classes to teach children about the special bond between people and their pets.
