A dominant
thread running through August 2001's
survey results was the need for smart planning for
our community.
Preliminary
research shows that CPN may be far closer to achieving a new community
recreation center. Over the next few months, a lot of work will
be done to determine whether this is the time to pursue the goal
of building a CPN Rec Center. Key to that study is community response
- what amenities should be included? (You can't budget for what
you do not define). Funding this would be a combination (yet to
be determined) of dues, contributions, grants, membership fees and
operating funds.
CPN
wants to know: Are we ready for a CPN Recreation Center? What should
it include? What do you say...

"It
would be great to have a rec center, but not if we have to pay everytime
we want to go. Can you set it up like Highlands Ranch, where our dues
pay for our membership." |
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
8-25 |
"I
don't thing we should consider a recreation center at this time." |

"Let
a private organization come to to CPN with a health club. Then those
that want to use the facilities and pay for the costs. Let's not have
everyone pay for a facility that is only used by some!" |
|
|
|
|
|
|

"Not
necessary; don't want it; won't use it; find it a negative when considering
quality of the community. It would detract from everything I found
charming about this community when I moved here." |

|
|
|

"We
need a rec center that can also serve as a community meeting place.
A large gymnasium can also serve other purposes. We need to keep our
kids active." |

"There
are not enough homes to support a rec center. This is pure politics
by a few who are afraid to give the community the truth about how
much this will cost. Shame on them!!!!!!!!" |

|
|

"I'm
not sure if this is the appropriate place to respond to the question
of whether a recreation center should be constructed and how it will
be funded. I do support construction of a center but only if the location
will not create an annoyance for surrounding homes and if it is funded
from a users fee. I might use the center but then again I might not.
The individuals using the center should pay a daily or annual fee.
People not using the center should not be assessed mandatory fees
or be expected to contribute to the cost if they do not use the facilities."
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
4-21 |
"We
strongly feel that dues for any rec center should be voluntary. No
dues for the entire community should be charged. Have the people using
the facility pay dues based on their use of the rec center. Thank
you." |

"My
wife and I both feel the same way. We may or may not use the Rec
Center. Since usage is our option, we should also have the option
to pay for it ONLY WHEN AND IF WE USE IT. I play a lot of golf --
are other CPN residents going to subsidize my recreation choice?
When
we moved to CPN, we were told and fully expected our taxes would
decrease as the community grew and the indebtedness was paid off.
We don't expect to see these reductions diverted to some risky special-use
public project. What's next after a Rec Center? A movie theater
or bowling alley built with tax dollars? Same principle.
We
don't need another extension of a government (type) entity deciding
what's best for all of us and making us pay for it. Encourage it
and let it happen as a commercial venture, with private management
providing good service and features that attract and keep clientelle.
If the consultants don't think it can be self-supporting, then don't
do it!"

"I
moved to CPN for a reason. If I wanted to live in Highlands Ranch
or Parker I would have moved there. I have seen all too often, communities
incorporate a facility like this where everyone is on board, just
to have the attendance drop off in a very short time. If people are
looking for a recreation center, there are plenty to join in the area.
If they are looking for baby sitters I am sure there are also great
individuals in our community that would be more than happy to. Why
should the majority of the community pay for something that they would
not use."

"As
new homeowners in CPN we would LOVE to see a rec center with the above
noted amenities. Our #1 choice would be to have a roller hockey rink
to use and perhaps start a league as in Parker and Highlands Ranch.
Please, please, please build a rec center!!!"

the growth lovers want."

"I
already belong to a health club, have a good rate as an original member,
and do not plan to drop my membership. I have no interest in belonging
to another club, and thus do not wish to pay dues for something I
will not use. I have no problem with someone building a free standing
health club and letting those who wish to join pay for it. I will
not support additional fees for something that was not part of the
covenants or the Master Association when I moved here. I have no problem
with justified rate increases for the services already provided. If
I did not already belong to a health club, I would consider joining
and would have answered the questions differently. Thanks for the
opportunity to comment." |
